Cologne Christmas Markets
Tuesday 14th December 2010
Cologne’s Christmas market
boasts the city’s magnificent
gothic cathedral as its
backdrop, and in addition to
spectacular light displays, the
market’s showpiece is the
giant Christmas tree. A wide
choice of local produce,
wooden toys, and novelty
items are on offer, including
‘spekulatius’ (thin spiced biscuits), and candles and
soaps made in the shape of the cathedral. We also
visit Bonn, Beethoven’s town, with impressive
illuminated facades on Munsterplatz and the
neighbouring streets and the beautiful old town hall
transformed into an enormous Advent Calendar.
