Home Counties Highlights
Monday 20th September 2010
A new tour visiting some of the delightful houses
in the Home Counties. We travel to the Roman
Cathedral City of St. Albans where you will
be able to explore roman remains, visit the awardwinning
Verulamium Museum and discover the
architectural splendour of the Cathedral. We travel
to Woburn Abbey, historic home of the Dukes of
Bedford for nearly 400 years. Set in 3000 acres of
land, Woburn Abbey houses one of the most
important private art collections in the world
including paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds, Van
Dyck and Canaletto. Explore the Antiques centre and learn about the “Ladies of
Woburn” on a guided tour of the Abbey. We enjoy a guided tour of Hatfield House
where Elizabethan History began with 1000 acres of parkland and gardens. We also
spend a day at Knebworth House and Park. The romantic exterior with turrets, domes
and gargoyles does little to prepare for what’s inside this Tudor home. Finally, we will
supply you with a packed lunch to be eaten at the “Gardens of the Rose” where you
will discover the atmosphere of a large Edwardian estate and a garden with some
1,800 rose varieties and over 30,000 rose bushes.
