German Fairytale Towns & The Harz Mountains
Saturday 3 July 2010
Travel to fairyland in Germany and see many towns and villages
associated with the Brothers Grimm and the realm of fairytales.
Revel in the delight of childhood while experiencing a taste of
quintessential German culture, tradition and charm alongside
amazing scenery. Stroll around our historic base, Goslar, which is a
former mining town chosen as the site of the impressive Imperial
Palace. Its well-preserved medieval historic centre is surrounded by
half-timbered houses with intricate carvings and steeply gabled
rooftops. We discover the Fairytale Road, a scenic route dotted
with inspirational settings for some of the most renowned
children’s stories – castles, towers and picturesque squares. Along
the way we visit Kassel and then Hamelin, home to the famous
Pied Piper. We travel to Wernigerode, another beautifully preserved
town with spectacular architecture, turrets and squares and include
a memorable journey aboard the famous narrow gauge railway to
view the picturesque hillside, woodlands and valleys. We also go
to Quedlinburg, a charming little town which is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and head to Bode Valley and Thale, an area famous
for its witches, myths and sagas.
