The beautiful Leeds Castle benefits from an absolutely idyllic location – rising majestically from the moat as it has done for 900 years surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and gardens, it’s easy to see why it was described as “the loveliest castle in the world”!

A castle has been on the site since 1119 at it has been a Norman stronghold; the private property of six of England’s medieval queens; a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon; a Jacobean country house; a Georgian mansion; an elegant early 20th century retreat for the influential and famous; and in the 21st century, it has become one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. The castle today dates mostly from the 19th century and is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len to the east of the village of Leeds. It has been open to the public since 1976.

Our visit coincides wit Leeds Castle's Wacky Witches and Wizards at Half Term, offering younger visiters the chance to answer a riddle to find wacky witches and wizards around the Castle grounds and listen carefully to their spooky tales. They can also answer a question in order to complete their trail card and claim a chocolate reward! A fun new haunted trail will guide younger visitors through the Woodland Walk (small additional charge applies). There will also be a daily outdoor children's 'Monster Mash Ball' and fancy dress competition!
